The unending love of God
"...God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
If you ever doubted God's love for you, take a look at Romans 5:8. Let it sink in for a moment. Christ died for you. He died for me. He died for us when we were still selfish, and said mean things, when we told lies and hated. He saw all of that and He loved us. He loves you enough to suffer on a wooden cross and die a horrible death. He loves you that much. He loves me that much.
We all seem to be programmed to feel like we have to "be better" or "do better" or "get cleaned up" before we can be accepted and loved. Some of our relationships seem to reinforce that. God is just not that way. He doesn't require you to get cleaned up before He accepts and loves you. He loves you in all your mess because He knows that life is messy. Even our best efforts will still leave us messy. We might be able to hide our mess from other people but we can't hide it from God. He knows and He loves.
Jesus didn't lead a neat, clean life. A life of love doesn't tend to be neat and clean, it seems like there are always messes involved!
What I want you to know today is that your mess doesn't make God want to back off. He loves you just the way you are, messy, because, to be honest, we are going to be messy all of our lives in one way or another. The challenge you have is to believe that you are lovely in your mess. Once you know that, you can't be stopped!
