Following the way of love
"Love is patient, love is kind..."
1 Corinthians 13:4
It's easy to say the words, "I love you," isn't it? Actually loving someone can be much, much harder. Have you met someone that you found really hard to love? I have. Maybe it is a sibling or a neighborhood kid, or someone at school. They are often the person that winds you up and makes you cross and feel mad, or sometimes even sad. My natural response is to be angry and criticize them, but God asks us to pray for those people. Maybe there is someone on your mind right now that you could say a prayer for.
God gives us a pretty hard task when he asks us to love. He knows it's not easy but he also knows that He will help us if we ask Him. Perhaps the person that drives you crazy is someone you need to be kind to today. Perhaps kindness looks like being honest with them and telling them what they do that hurts you. It takes courage to talk to straight to someone instead of talking about them behind their back. Maybe that is one way to be kind today. Maybe being kind looks like helping someone who is struggling, or saying a word of encouragement. Maybe being patient looks like waiting just a bit longer for lunch without complaining, or sharing a toy that you desperately want to play with.
God wants us to "follow the way of love" (1 Cor. 14:1). We love because He first loved us (1 Jn 4:19). If you are finding it hard to love today, ask your patient and kind Father in heaven to show you His great love for you, and then look for ways to love others.
