A time to rest
Jesus said, "Come off by yourselves; let's take a break and get a little rest."
Isn't it reassuring to know that God knows we need rest, in fact, he even built it into our week so that we would rest. He knows that little humans need 1 day of rest for every 6 days of work. We're made that way - even God himself took a Sabbath rest from work (Gen. 2:2-3) when He was making our beautiful world.
God wants us to slow down and rest and have some time to refresh. It's so good for us. Psalm 127:2 says: "Don't you know he enjoys giving rest to those he loves?"
Our God is good and kind. He knows just when we need to rest and He enjoys giving it to us.
The world is busy and keeps us working to get more or be better. God knew it would be hard for us to rest. That is why He commands the Israelites to rest in the Old Testament (Exodus 23:12). Sometimes we need to be told to do something that is good for us because we often can't seem to choose it for ourselves.
Is it hard for you to rest? Do you see people around you having a hard time resting? What helps you to rest? What activities are restful for you?
Thank God today that He is a good and loving Father that loves to take care of us.
