Through the eyes of an African child

Held in the night through Love,
Held in the night when fear assails and the morning cannot yet be seen,
You are there.

You are there when my mother takes her last breath,
You are there when all I can feel is desolate emptiness,
Love still holds me.

Love holds me when the rags on my body tear some more,
Love holds me when sobs wrack my weary body,
Comfort never leaves me.

Comfort never leaves me even though the hordes of hell long to steal my life,
Comfort never leaves me even when the water we drink is brown and unsafe,
He is still good.

He is still good and He has a plan for me,
He is still good and He longs to show me his love,
Hope can arise.

Hope can arise because there are people who care,
Hope can arise because there are people who feed me,
Hope will prevail.

Hope will prevail in the kindness of a sponsor,
Hope will prevail from the hands of those who love Him,
I choose to believe.

I choose to believe that poverty doesn't have to define me,
I choose to believe that my life can have purpose,
I have a destiny.

I have a destiny because an all-powerful God loves me,
I have a destiny and I hear those words spoken over me,
Joy can be mine.

Joy can be mine in the friendships He's given me,
Joy can be mine as I dance my praise to God,
Love is mine.

Love is mine as I know my Abba Father,
Love is mine as I drink deep from the Living Water that never runs dry.
I am His and He is mine.
